•                     EASTHAM HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE (As revised)

•                     Eastham, Massachusetts

•                     November 11, 2008

•

•                     Present: Chairman Gail Hoffman, Lynn Chafetz, Richard Dill, Elaine Lipton, Gordon Major, Mary Sedlock, Dilys Smith

•

•                     The meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by Chairwoman Gail Hoffman in the Conference Room in the Police Station.

•                     The minutes of the October 28 meeting were accepted as corrected. (No meeting November 4 because of Election Day.)

•

•                     Elaine Lipton and Lynn Chafetz gave a report on a visit to CapeAbilities, a local agency. They found the situation positive, although all the improvements they had hoped for last spring had not been completed.

•

•                     Dilys reported that Sight Loss was still visiting the Council on Aging regularly, being very helpful to 12-15 people who have vision problems with suggestions on managing their lives as well as possible with their limitations.

•

•                     Elaine reported a meeting with a High School Guidance Counselor, reporting that the police presence was very helpful, and that they were aware of and working with students with substance abuse problems.

•

•                     Gail, Mary and Dilys reported on a meeting with Chief Hedlund, discussing operations of the Police Department working with other departments and the school to lower in incidence of drug problems. He also talked about how the officers are working on town security in connection with Park Service personnel, and police from nearby towns.

•

•                     Mary Sedlock and Gordon Major agreed to be joint chairs for the 2009/2010 year.

•

•                     The members of the committee voted to extend a statement of gratitude to our retiring chairwoman, Gail Hoffman, who kept us on point for her six years in this position, plus three more as an active member.

•

•                     We discussed our continuing goals in light of last Spring’s statement: “This Committee has been reassessing its mission in light of the impact of health insurance availability to all MNA residents. We will give greater consideration to definitive programs, excluding general health care, that address the needs of  Eastham’s residents.“  This statement still reflects our position.

•

•                     We then moved on to voting for recommendations to the Selectmen for 2010/2011.

•
